On Friday, July 18th 2025, 6:30 pm, Linda Hostetler, 57, surrounded by her loved ones, went home to be with the Lord after a five-year battle with Thyroid Cancer. She was an active member of MCA, a mother, a grandmother, a wife, and a helping hand at just the right time.
Linda was born on February 4, 1968. As the firstborn of a dairy farmer, much of her time was spent on a milk stool; despite this, she managed to find time for her favorite hobby, reading. She attended Holmesville Elementary and proved an exemplary student. On September 22, 1988, at the age of 20 she married Ervin from Turbotville, Pennsylvania.
She is survived by her husband, Ervin Hostetler; her children, Nevin (Casey) Hostetler, Josiah (Traci) Hostetler, Loren (Katie) Hostetler, Jeremy (Raquel) Hostetler, Sara Hostetler, Laverne (Michaeline) Hostetler, and Melissa (Kyle) Clark; her 7 grandchildren, Adelynn, Layla, Jovie, Tessa, Alina, Jude, and Isaiah; her parents, Eli and Ella Hilty; and her siblings, Lucinda, Martha, Mervin, Amanda, Barbara, Paul, Laverne, Jonathan, Melvin, Alvin, Leora, Dennis, Kathryn, Elmina, Larene, and Steven.
Much of Linda’s time in the past five years was spent with her friends and family. Doting on her grandchildren was her top priority. She was ecstatic to see the birth of her grandsons, Jude and Isaiah, in 2024. She defied expectations and made it to her daughter Melissa’s wedding. She also had the strength to make it to one last family vacation to the outer banks in October 2024. She also spent time writing letters and making phone calls to people who were in similar circumstances to hers, such as her late sister-in-law Miriam Hostetler.
When she wasn’t spending time with her family, she would take time for some of life’s simpler pleasures. Things such as bird watching, baking, and curling up with a good book.
Anyone that knew Linda is likely to have a story of her work ethic, helpful attitude, and compassion. At church carry-ins she didn’t leave until every last dish was clean, every crumb swept up, and each folding chair stacked and stowed. At High School track meets and girl’s basketball games she would leap at the chance to help in concessions. She had friends wherever she went. She lived her life for her Savior, and her family. She will be missed.
Friends and family may call on Monday, July 21, 2025 from 6-8:00 pm and Tuesday, July 22, 2025 from 6-8:00 pm at Fairlawn Mennonite Church, 8520 Emerson Road, Apple Creek where funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at MCA Cemetery in Fredericksburg.
