Larry James Foltz, age 77, of Altoona, Pa., passed away on May 5, 2025. Larry was born March 28, 1948, in Windber, Pa., to Russell and Margaret Foltz.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Nora M. (Stout) Foltz, and sister-in-law Janet E. Stout (Janet Horsch). He was predeceased by brother Bill Foltz, sister Carol Gates, and sister Peggy Pevahouse. Larry was a well-respected member of the UPMC Altoona Hospital Mental Health Center. For nearly 40 years, he was the face of compassion in the wee hours of the night serving the mental health needs of the people of Altoona, and the surrounding area.
An avid outdoorsman and nature lover, Larry was a member of the “ichthys” fishing club, the Keating Moss Hunting Camp, and hunted with the Forest Hills Lodge for 36 years. His love of nature also included early morning “nature drives” in Cameron County to catch a glimpse of wild elk, which he often did.
Larry had an encyclopedic knowledge of music. He loved all genres, including the blues, jazz, rock and roll, and R&B. Ever wonder who sang a song? Just ask Larry!
Larry served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from 1968 to 1970, first on the USS Massy DD778 as a yeoman 3 and then on the Commander Destroyer Division Group Two in Newport, RI. He was honorably discharged in 1970. He then attended Lock Haven State College from 1971 to 1975, graduating with a B.A. in psychology.
Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, May 22nd from 1pm to 2pm at the Good Funeral Home 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, PA 16601 where a memorial service will be held at 2:00pm
