Larry Domark, Sr.

Larry Domark, Sr.

Larry Domark, Sr.

Larry Steven Domark Sr., 85, of Plainfield, Illinois passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on June 2, 1940 in Chicago, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Carolyn (Pollitt), on October 7, 1961, sharing 64 wonderful years together.

Larry is cherished by his adoring wife Carolyn and their large and loving family of 11 children; Tammy (Self), Todd (Belinda), Scott (Heidi), Larry Jr. (Claire), Robert (Jill), Shawn (Michelle), twins Holly Schulz (Jamie) and Heather Panfil (Phil), Sunny (Steve Hablik), TJ (Stacy) and AuBrey King (Jason). He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren who filled his life with joy and laughter.

He started his professional career at Marvel Metals and progressed to being the traffic manager and buyer for FSC Paper Company (now Alsip Mini Mill) in Alsip, Illinois where he devoted 55 years. After leaving the corporate world at age 75 still determined to stay busy and make a difference, Larry enjoyed his next 10 years working full-time at Angelo Caputo’s Fresh Markets in Naperville serving its loyal customers. The management, employees, and customers became family to him. There he would share stories of his life, his 11 children, and loving wife while they shared their own family stories with him. Larry looked forward to seeing familiar faces each week and brought home fun stories from the store every day. During his final years at Caputo’s he held the most important position as greeter. He was your first impression upon entering and the very last making you eager to return. Larry was the star and soul of the store.

No one loved racing or his family more than Larry. He involved his boys in racing just as his father had introduced him to racing, by building their own midget race car. This meant quality time for him and his boys as they pondered the next engine, body design and race. While Larry Sr. himself raced the #5 stock car at Raceway Park in Blue Island Illinois, Larry’s son Todd raced the next generation #5 midget car at Joliet Stadium, Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Illinois and his favorite track IRP (Indianapolis Raceway Park). He loved bonding with his boys over the car design, functions, and reveled in the fact that the rest of the family came together by gathering in the stands to cheer them on. Nothing meant more to him than the relationships he built while being creative in a sport he loved.

When not on the racetrack, Larry (and his wife) remodeled a three-story Victorian (Painted Lady) on Illinois Street in Plainfield, IL taking it from 3 apartments back to its original state as a single-family home. Using his artistic abilities, he handmade stained-glass windows which were displayed in local churches and businesses. Continuing his passion for art, he built dollhouses for his grandchildren, designed elaborate Christmas displays and collected model trains.

Larry valued the meaning of a promise and a handshake. He was hardworking, loyal, and trustworthy. An amazing man who demonstrated to his family the definition of unconditional love and the temptation of a fast car.

Larry’s family will celebrate his life with a private family gathering. We kindly ask that you leave a note on the Friedrich-Jones & Overman-Jones Funeral site under Larry S. Domark. The family would love to read about your memories and experiences.
