Kay Eileen Mahaffey, age 92, of Mount Vernon, Ohio (formerly of Ada, Ohio), passed peacefully into the presence of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
Kay was born on May 19, 1933, in Ada, Ohio, the daughter of Richard Austin Church and Maude (Zickafoose) Church. She graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1951 and from the Lima Memorial School of Nursing in 1954. Kay married her husband Louis Mahaffey in 1957.
Throughout her dedicated nursing career, Kay served in many capacities, including doctors’ offices, hospital nursing, and industrial nursing, and concluded with twenty years at the Franklin County Board of Health. Her compassionate care and steadfast work ethic touched countless lives.
Kay was a faithful member of the Bluelick Bible Church in Ada. She loved tending to her flower gardens, creating crafts, attending craft shows, and cherishing antiques and family heirlooms. Her creativity and appreciation for beauty were evident in every aspect of her life.
She is survived by her daughters, Lissa (Jon) Stewart of Mount Vernon, Ohio, and Michele (Daniel) Atkins of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a brother, Charles (Karen) Church of Wisconsin; and a sister, Alice Jean (Vince) Kopfstein of Wadsworth.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Church.
Kay will be lovingly remembered for her faith, kindness, and devotion to family. Her gentle spirit, caring heart, and joyful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Friends may call on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will begin at 12 p.m. Pastor Chris Tullos will be officiating. A graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Ada, Ohio.
