Kathryn Elser

Kathryn “Kathy” Elser, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, in her hometown of Denver, Colorado, at the age of 82. She was born in Denver on April 16, 1943, and remained deeply rooted in the community she loved throughout her life.

Kathy is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Art; her loving children, Barbara and Al: cherished grandson, Louis, and her brother John. She is also remembered with deep affection by extended family, nieces, and countless friends and strangers whose lives she touched. She was proceeded in death by her beloved mother, Barbara Richardson and her father, Alfred Richardson.

A proud daughter of the American Revolution and a lifelong member of P.E.O., like her mother before her; Kathy was a woman of grace, intelligence, and unwavering dedication to the people she held dear. She was among the first graduating class of Denver’s George Washington High School, having spent her earlier high school years at East High School. She went on to become a registered nurse, graduating with salutatorian from the University of Colorado’s nursing program. 

Kathy had an abiding love for her family, art history, and all things Italian – speaking the language fluently and visiting Italy often. She had a lifelong passion for Colorado baseball, from the early days of the Denver Bears to the Colorado Rockies. When her children were young, she played a central role in their education through active involvement in school PTA’s, always present, always caring.

Known for her elegance and high fashion, Kathy lit up every room with her warmth, wit, and deep compassion. Her devotion to her family was absolute, and her legacy of love, kindness, and empathy lives on in those she nurtured and inspired – especially her husband, children, grandson, and the many whose lives she quietly but profoundly touched.

Kathy Elser leaves behind not just the memory of a life well lived, but a world made better by her presence. She will be deeply missed by all those who had the privilege to know her.

Kathy and Art opted not to have a formal celebration of life. Instead, her family hopes all that knew her simply pay forward the kindness she showed them throughout her life. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in her honor to P.E.O. International, or a charity that supports nurses or promotes arts education.
