Kathrine (Karen) Valoze

Melrose, Rensselaer County

Kathrine (Karen) R. Valoze of Cushman Road passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at Riverside Center for Rehabilitation in Castleton. She was 83.

Karen was born in Troy on June 3, 1941, daughter of the late William and Grace (Lewis) Cavanaugh. She is the wife of the late Gerald S. Valoze of Melrose. She was raised in Mechanicville and raised her three children in Melrose.

In earlier years, she was a member of the Cooksboro Home and Hobby Club and coached her daughter in softball. She was an avid fan of Siena sports and also enjoyed casinos and horse racing. After her husband’s retirement, they enjoyed traveling and fulfilled a long time dream of taking a cross-country trip together. She was a member of the Mechancville senior center and enjoyed playing in the Monday night bocce league. She also enjoyed family scrabble nights and loved attending her beloved grandchildren’s sporting events.

Survivors include her son, Brian Valoze of East Greenbush and his children Brandon Valoze and Megan Valoze, her daughter Anita (Clifford) Stevens of Ballston Spa and their children Amber (Kevin) O’Keefe and Clifford (Taylor) Stevens, and her son Gerald Valoze of Melrose. Also survived by her sister, Mary Alice (Ernie Lisi) Simone of Rochester and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her siblings, James Cavanaugh, Rita Lewandowski, Joan Cavanaugh and Edward Cavanaugh.

Calling hours will be on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 10am-12:00 noon at the Chase-Smith Family Funeral Homes, 319 Park Avenue, Mechanicville. Funeral Mass will be at 1:00pm at All Saints on the Hudson Church in Mechanicville with burial to follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
