Kathleen Viney

Kathleen L. Viney, 74, passed away July 14, 2025 at Mercy Hospital, with her loving daughters by her side. She was always a loving Mom and Grandma, interested in what was happening with all of her family. She was the sounding board for when things didn’t go right and no matter where she was, she seemed to get to know a person’s life history in a matter of minutes. Kathy worked at a variety of jobs in her life, from office work, nursing assistant, to the job that was the most satisfying, school bus operations. She loved her kids on her routes. She started this fascinating career with Sayre Bus Company in Milton, and up until a few months ago, ended in Stoughton, WI. She worked every aspect of school bussing, but in her later years she just enjoyed being “Ms. Kathy” the bus driver. The children that rode her bus, were always referred to as “her kids” and she loved them all.

She was also a noted “68er”. She loved the adventures of the ” Traveling 68er’s” (her classmates and spouses) and was always “bags packed” ready for another trip. She kept everyone informed of the adventures via social media and many complimented the stories told from the trips. She was the chronicle organizer of the events from trips, get togethers, and family fun.

Kathy graduated from Milton Union High School in 1968, and continued her enthusiasm for life from then on. She married her soul mate and love of her life Allen Viney, in 1990, and until his passing in 1999, experienced amazing, exciting escapades with him that lived in her heart forever!

She was the proud Mom of JaLayne (Otis) Hawkins, grandson Thomas Hawkins; Jillian (Dale) West; grandson Avery Maves, granddaughters, Callie Pagel and Isla West. She leaves behind, sisters, Jan (Eldred) Mielke and Teddy (Jerry) Patterson, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Not to be overlooked, she also leaves behind many wonderful friends. She will be missed by her housemate Don Maas. She especially wanted her sister from another mother, Vicki Heritage to know how thankful she was to have her company in any activity they did together. Lastly, she also wanted to mention her friends Marian and Paul Anderson as they too kept good company.

Kathy was a long-time member of St John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Milton and up to recent participated in Alter Guild.

Kathy is proceeded in death by her parents, Ted and Lena Soergel, her husband, Al, her brother, Ken Soergel and his wife Kay, and great niece Kira Rhodes.

A special thank you goes out to several staff members at Mercy Hospital, Dr. Austin Wilson-Pillion, for Palliative Care and the nursing staff of fourth floor. Dr. Taylor, Makenna RN and Medina (Student Nurse) in the Emergency Department, the staff that helped keep Kathy comfortable.

A Memorial Service will be held Thursday July 24, 2025 at 11:00am At St. Johns Evangelical Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Wednesday July 23, 2025 from 5pm-7pm at the Albrecht Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, Milton and again on Thursday July 24 at 1000 am until the time of service at the church. The Albrecht Funeral Homes & Cremation Services are assisting the family with arrangements.

From the words of our mother to all the lives she touched, “Thank you for being a friend!”.
