Junior “Gary” Cottrill, 85, of the Lynn Camp Community near Pennsboro, WV, departed this life peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at his residence.
He was born November 1, 1939 on Buck Run near Pennsboro, WV the oldest of twelve children to the late Clarence Junior and Mary (Taylor) Cottrill. Gary retired after 35 years of employment at the former Economy Industries of Harrisville, WV. Before the garment factory, he worked as a truck driver at the former Hathaway’s Hatchery near Harrisville, and enjoyed farming. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army being stationed in Germany as a member of the 7th Armored Cavalry. Gary was an avid outdoorsman. He loved coon hunting and won the United States Championship in 1968. He also loved deer, squirrel, and turkey hunting, finding and digging ginseng, and loved trout fishing. Gary was a faithful member of the Highland Community Church for the past 20 years and he loved talking with people and loved all his pet dogs that he had over the years.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn (Richmond) Cottrill; his sons, Gary (Regina) Cottrill of Pennsboro, WV; Robert (Missy) Cottrill of Cayce, SC, and Mike (Kim) Cottrill of Parkersburg, WV; grandchildren, Jessica (Kyle) Hager; Matthew (Haley) Cottrill; Lacie Cottrill; Rebecca Cottrill; Charles Michael Cottrill; Abigail Cottrill; step grandchildren, Erinn; Sara; Jailyn; great grandchildren, Maddison; Lillie; Alivia, and his siblings, Charles Cottrill of Pennsboro, WV; Shirley Kutsher of Uhrichsville, OH; Sandy Wigington of Canton, OH, and Heather Mace of Pennsboro, WV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Carol Felton, Joe Cottrill, Beckey Capalingo, John Cottrill, Rob Cottrill, Glenda Jones, and Clarence Cottrill.
Funeral services will be 11am, Monday, September 29, 2025 at the Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV with Pastors Sam Lambert, Joseph Lambert and Jeff Mayfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Pisgah Cemetery near Harrisville, WV where full military honors will be conducted. Visitation will be from 5pm-8pm on Sunday, at the funeral home.
