Joyce Eileen Stotesbury (Currie), wife of Douglas Stotesbury for over 69 years, passed away on January 21st, 2012. Joyce was in her 89th year. She was mother of four wonderful daughters, Judy Spence (Fred) of Ottawa, Jane Banks (Gary) of Wasaga Beach, Julie Levine (Knute) of Boulder, Colorado and Jacqueline Stotesbury (Greg) of Wasaga Beach. Joyce was the daughter of John and Isabel Currie of Hilton Beach, St. Joseph Island, Ontario. She was predeceased by her brothers Colonel Norman Currie of Sault Ste. Marie and RCMP Officer Clare Currie of Owen Sound. She has a sister, Joan House, living in St. Thomas, Ontario. She has 5 grandchildren, Jamie and Jenna Spence, Evan and Hannah Levine and Charlotte O’Rourke. She also has 2 rambunctious great-grandsons, Erik and Mattias in Calgary, Alberta. Joyce had a full lifetime starting as a bookkeeper in Sault Ste. Marie and then travelling to Ottawa during WW2 where Douglas was in the airforce. Working with the National Film Board they travelled extensively – from Wawa to Carelton Place, to Newfoundland. As a minister’s wife, and often as a music teacher, they lived in Camlachie, Maxwell, Stayner and St. Mary’s, Ontario. Joyce worked at Schuller Fotography in Collingwood for over 18 years. Doug and Joyce spent over 20 retirement winter seasons on Jekyll Island where they acquired many new friends from across the United States. She could create a spontaneous sing song wherever she played the piano or accordion. She will be missed.
Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner (705-428-2637) on Monday January 23, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and on Tuesday January 24, 2012 from 1 until the time of Memorial Service in the Chapel at 2 o’clock. If desired, donations in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Collingwood Collegiate Institute Music Program.
