Joy Fenton, age 76, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 11, 2025 at the MHP Serenity Hospice house in Oskaloosa. She was born on May 4, 1949, in Seattle, Washington the daughter of Wilburn and Thelma (Horton) Taylor. She attended school in Ottumwa and later in Oskaloosa, graduating with the Class of 1968. On June 22, 1968, she was united in marriage to Jerry Fenton at the Open Bible Church in Oskaloosa. Together they shared 49 years of marriage until Jerry passed away in 2017.
Joy worked at Pella Corp and retired after 33 years of employment. She enjoyed traveling with Jerry and working Blue Grass shows with him, collecting unique candles, watching her grandchildren and fishing and camping.
She is survived by her son, Dean ( Amy) Fenton; her grandchildren, Ariel, Chris, Brandon, Schayalla, Elizabeth (Randy), Emily (Hank), Micheal and Justice; her great grandchildren, Noah and Gracelynn; her siblings, Bob Taylor, Ray Taylor, Kathy Stouthammer and Sue (Larry) Sylvester and a son in law, Keith Rice.
Joy was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her parents, Wilburn and Thelma; a daughter, Lisa Rice and a sister, Bonnie Hazelwood.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with pastor Adam Rogers officiating. Burial will follow services at the Tioga Cemetery near Rose Hill. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 14, beginning after 11:00 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel with Joy’s family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Monday evening to greet relatives and guests. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the MHP Serenity Hospice House
