Joseph Varamo, Sr. of Port Chester, NY, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025,
at 92 years old. He was born on June 22, 1932, in Cittanova, Reggio Calabria, Italy to
the late Antonio & Maria Theresa Varamo and immigrated to the United States when he
was 19. He was a long-time member of the Port Chester Knights of Columbus and will
be remembered as good-natured, hardworking, generous, and kind. A carpenter by
trade, Joseph was a gifted craftsman and woodworker who also enjoyed gardening,
cooking, and making wine. He was known for his sociable nature and loved hosting
friends and family at his home. In addition to his craftsmanship, Joseph had a keen eye
for business and real estate. He supported his sons, John and Lou, in founding Varamo
Construction, a successful home renovation company that has flourished for over 40
years.
Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Donata (Malizia), his sons John Varamo and
Joseph Varamo Jr., his brother Vincenzo, and his brothers-in-law, Rocco Loscri and
Sam D’Estrada. Joseph is survived by his wife, Joanne, his children, Theresa Alonso,
Tony Varamo (Pat), Louis Varamo (Angela) and his stepson, Walter Murray III (Pam).
Additionally, Joseph is survived by his grandchildren Samantha Horne, Daniel Varamo
(Emily), Vincent Varamo (Gianna), Ashley Robinson (Rob), John Varamo, Kimberly
Wagner (Dan), Donna Buonanno (Devin), Joseph Varamo, and Gage Varamo. Joseph
was blessed with 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He is also
survived by his loving sisters, Angelina Loscri, Lina Zito (Rocco) & Laura D’Estrada.
In honor of Joseph’s life, family and friends are invited to gather at Joseph Tutera
Funeral Home, 121 S. Regent St, Port Chester, NY 10573 on Monday, January 27,
2025, at 4-8 pm. A blessing will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at 11am at the
funeral home followed by interment at St Mary’s Cemetery, 1 High St, Rye Brook, NY
10573.
