Joseph Franklin McAnallen, 93, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025 in Phoenix, AZ.
Joseph (Joe) was born on August 11, 1932, in Keating Township, PA the son of Frank and Ethel (Graham) McAnallen. Joe was the sixth of eight children. Joe graduated from Smethport High School in 1951. He served in the U.S Navy from 1951 to 1955. After his service, Joe attended St. Bonaventure University in Olean, NY graduating in 1959 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting. Joe married in 1956 and raised four children: Cynthia, Orlo, Robin and Mitch. In 1959, he accepted a position within the financial department at Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company (3M) in Rochester, NY. Joe would subsequently accept leadership roles within the Photographic Division relocating his family to Los Angeles, CA, Cape Town and Johannesburg, South Africa, Toronto and London, Ontario, Canada, retiring in Minneapolis, MN as the International Director of the Photographic Division in 1995.
In 1993, Joe and Lois A. Hart were married. After Joe’s retirement, the two of them would relocate to Sun City in Oro Valley, AZ. Joe loved the outdoors; golfing, hiking, and biking whenever he could. Joe led the finance club and he and Lois earned membership into the Cactus Kickers square dance club. After purchasing an RV, Joe and Lois would travel the country with their friends from the RV club. After doing that for several years, they traveled to Park City, UT to spend the summer months with their friends from Tucson. Joe loved being with family & friends; enjoying a nice glass of red wine, experimenting with his smoker grill, and perfecting his margarita recipe. In 2019, they would relocate to Scottsdale, AZ to be closer to family.
Joe is survived by: his children Cynthia (Orville) Stewart, Robin McAnallen and Mitch (Anne) McAnallen, daughter-in-law Donna McAnallen, step children Pamela Reinhold, Diane (William) Flood, and Robert (Jill Thomas) Hart, step grandchildren Joel (Krissy) Chapman, Cale (Allyse) Chapman, Morgan (Sarah Donahue) Kimberly, Taylor Kimberly, Ella (fiancé Eric Andrea) Kimberly, Hannah Flood, Tracy (Pavan) Narla, Zach (fiancé Vicki Fields) Hart, Max (Tatum) Hart, Mae Hart, step great grandchildren Samantha Chapman, Cameron Chapman and Agnes Kimberly.
Joe was proceeded in death by: his wife Lois McAnallen, son Orlo McAnallen, parents Frank and Ethel McAnallen, his brothers and sisters and son-in-law Joe Vieira.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
With deep appreciation and gratitude, the family wishes to thank the staff of The Retreat at Alameda, Phoenix, AZ for their kindness and the extraordinary care he received while in memory care.
