Johnnie Barksdale

Johnnie Lee Barksdale was born in Parkin, AR, to Addie and Johnnie Barksdale. He was the first of eight children. After finishing school, Johnnie joined the Army in 1951.

After being discharged from the Army, Johnnie relocated to Memphis, TN, in 1953. He worked for Memphis Light Gas and Water for a short time before becoming an automotive interior specialist at Don’s Auto Upholstery.

Johnnie met and married Augusta Boyland in 1954. Out of this union was born a son (Ronald Lee Barksdale) and three daughters (Linda Faye Barksdale, Marcia Annette (Barksdale) Grant, and Cynthia Denise (Barksdale) Sudduth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (his twin Addie Morris and Daisy Williams), two brothers (Eddie and Hezekiah Barksdale), and one daughter (Linda Barksdale).

Those left to cherish his memory are three sisters: Equilla Taylor of Cleveland, OH Priscilla Hamilton of St. Charles, MO and Eula Watson of Oakland, CA, one son Ronald Barksdale of Memphis, TN, two daughters Marcia Grant (Curtis) of Detroit, MI and Cynthia Sudduth of Memphis, TN, one step daughter Tonya Watson of Memphis, TN, ten grandchildren (Erica, Marcus, Joseph, Morgan, Taylor, Gabrielle, Joshua, Chelsey, Steven-Isaiah and Edward-Immanuel, six great grandchildren (Jayden, TaNiya, Tamera, Nicholas, Tyler and Mia) and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Johnnie will be greatly missed by all.
