John Savage Jr.

John Edward “Sonny” Savage Jr. was born on May 16, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at the blessed age of 79, after a long illness.

John attended Norfolk State University and later joined the Air Force. He served honorably in the United States Air Force as an electronic communication equipment specialist. His dedication to service continued with career in the Air Force Civil Service. John loved music and sang in the military group while in service.

In his later years, John attended Phoenix Bible College & seminary and answered the call to ministry, fully devoting himself to God’s work. He was a man of deep faith, love and service. He served faithfully as un Usher, Married Couples in Christ Ministry, Men’s Brotherhood Ministry, Food and Outreach Ministry, Pastor, and choir member, using his powerful voice to encourage and uplift others. John firmly believed in the power of prayer and shared his unwavering faith with all who crossed his path. John was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great grandfather. He was thoughtful and caring, always thinking of others and wishing them joy and love. He cherished family time, especially playing chess with his sons- always reminding them with a smile, that he was the best. He spoke often about his daughters, always wanting the best for them and supporting their dreams.

John is preceded in death by his parents John Edward Savage and Juanita Purdie. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 35 years, Mae Helen Savage; his children Lisa, Patricia, Satonya, Juanita, John Edward III, Brian, and Chad; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one aunt Ruby Smith, and a host of cousins and dear friends. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
