Lancaster-John E. “Jack” Santangelo, 91, passed peacefully at the Leominster Hospital on Wednesday, July 23, 2025. He is survived by his children, James P. Santangelo, John P. Santangelo & wife Ellen, Julie Coppenrath, Linda McGeehan & husband Robert, and Paul P. Santangelo; and two siblings, Ronald P. Santangelo, and Lois Courville & husband Richard. He leaves eight grandchildren: David and Chelsea Coppenrath, Robert and Seth McGeehan, James, Keith, Michael, and Johnathon Santangelo; two great-grandchildren Connor McGeehan and Rylie Santangelo; his daughter-in-law Tami Santangelo, generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is pre-deceased by his daughter Laurie Santangelo, granddaughter Khel McGeehan, and son-in-law David Coppenrath.
Son of the late John & Julia (Ryder) Santangelo, Jack was raised and educated in Clinton and was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade High School, Class of 1952. A proud patriot and veteran, Jack enlisted to serve our nation in the US Navy during the Korean War and was stationed aboard the USS Allagash as a Boiler Technician 2nd Class. He returned home safely to pursue studies in Art and his lifelong career as an artist. Jack completed his education at the Washington School of Art, Clark University, and Worcester Art Museum. He enjoyed his professional career as a graphic artist and art director, working for Holmes Graphics and Space Research Laboratories, before establishing, owning and operating Santangelo Advertising for many years until retiring. A true “Renaissance Man,” Jack was blessed with a brilliant mind and was a master of many crafts. Among his various hobbies, Jack was a talented painter and photographer, avid gardener and fisherman. He devoted himself to family, notably as a faithful caregiver to his daughter Laurie and advocate for the MA Association of the Blind, serving as a former Board of Director. Above all, Jack was a proud patriarch, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
Calling hours will be held from 5 until 7PM on Wednesday, July 30, 2025 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10AM on Thursday, July 31, 2025 at St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will later be held in St. John’s Cemetery, Lancaster.
