John Mulcahy

John J. Mulcahy died August 8 at age 87 of complications from cancer, one year after retiring from NEFCO, where he worked as an enthusiastic and curious forensic engineer.

He was an award-winning member of Toastmasters, a natural fit for his optimism and good nature. John was a member of the Historical Society of Beverly. He loved to go on the walking tours of the houses in town. He was a member and volunteered at Vittori Rocci Post 56. He also was a longtime member of St. John’s church in Beverly.

He tinkered endlessly with electronic gadgets. John loved geocaching, an open-source, global treasure hunt, though a beer, a friend, and a barstool would do just as well.

The eldest son of Daniel Mulcahy and Mary “Molly” (Sweeney) Mulcahy, John grew up in the Bronx. He graduated from Manhattan College in 1960 and was a longtime member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.

He is survived by daughters, Kathleen (Kathy)’s, significant other, Thomas Roccio, and Christina (Tina)’s, significant other, Louis Pate, brothers, Thomas (wife Vicky) and Richard (wife Ada), and many nieces and nephews whom he loved and whose milestones he celebrated.

He was preceded in death by his companion, Bridie, and his brothers, Daniel and Denis.

John will be remembered for his joie de vivre, his inexhaustible capacity to talk, and his love for his daughters, extended family, and friends. Kathy and Tina would have liked a little more time with their big-hearted, fun-loving dad. They invite you to remember John by raising a glass, cracking open a beer, listening with full engagement to someone’s random story with no foreseeable end, or donating to the charity of your choice.

His funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint John the Evangelist Chiurch, on Thursday August 14th, at 11:00 a.m.. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly, on Wednesday August 13th, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. Burial will be private.
