John Lizzo Sr.

John J. Lizzo, 94, of Nanuet, NY, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025.

Born in the Bronx on September 1, 1931, John lived a life defined by service, family, and friendship. He proudly served for 34 years as a firefighter with the FDNY, embodying courage, dedication, and resilience throughout his long and honorable career.

In 1952, John married the love of his life, Rosalie, and together they built a home full of warmth, love, and laughter. The couple moved to Nanuet in 1961, where John became a well-known and well-loved member of the community.

A devoted husband and father, John is survived by his sons, John and Michael and husband Steven Mandel. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Joanne. He also leaves behind many cherished nieces and nephews, to whom he was especially close.

John will be remembered as a hard-working, social, and deeply loyal man — someone who could light up a room with his presence and who always put family first. His many friends and extended family will miss his generous spirit, sharp wit, and unwavering dedication to those he loved.
