John Erwin Landgrebe, 70, lovingly known as “Pope,” passed away on Friday, November 28, 2025, in Pottsboro, Texas, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 7, 1954, in Springfield, Illinois, the son of Wilbur and Kay (Bellmer) Landgrebe and they preceded him in death. John married the love of his life, Debbie Landgrebe, on February 4, 1978, with whom he shared many years of devotion and partnership.

He was a proud father to his daughter, Courtney Caswell, and her husband, Brent, and a deeply cherished grandfather to Nora Caswell, who lit up his world.

He is survived by his brothers, Patrick Landgrebe (Sue Landgrebe) and Michael Landgrebe (Patty Ingram), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

John spent his career as a proud member of Carpenters Local 16, now Local 270, before retiring from Landgrebe Interior Construction in December 2009.

He was a longtime member of the original Ellis’ You’re-Out-In’ golf league, where he formed lasting friendships that meant the world to him. He was also an avid Harley rider, happiest on the open road, and an enthusiastic fan of OU football and OU women’s softball, cheering on his teams with passion.

He honorably served his country as a United States Navy veteran from 1976 to 1980, proudly stationed

aboard the USS Voge.

Those who knew John will remember his humor and the warmth he brought into every space. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Visitation: 9:30 – 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield.

Funeral Service: 11:30 am, Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Staab Funeral Home – Springfield. A burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.
