John Harold Callison was born March 3, 1954 in San Angelo, Texas to John T. Callison and Geraldine Haynes Callison. As a boy, he loved all the outdoor adventures on his Grandmother Callison’s farm on the Concho River which has always been referred to as the historical Bismarck Farm. Bismarck Farm was known for growing crops in the 1800’s to feed the Ft. Concho soldiers. John was well-known for being the star linebacker at Angelo Central High School which led to a significant football scholarship offer from Annapolis Naval Academy. John attended West Texas State on a football scholarship. After college, John began a 45 year career in the grocery business.

In 1985, John married Linda Gaisford Wilcox in San Angelo. Through their 39 years of marriage, they have shared many interests which include; following kid’s and grandkid’s sports, antiquing, regularly attending auctions, researching John’s Texas ancestry and Linda’s colonial ancestry, and meeting wonderful cousins found through their research! John adored his 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. In addition to hobbies and past-times, his greatest joy came from the family activities through the years as the family continued to grow!

John enjoyed other people and throughout his illness he still gave you his attention and best possible smile. He was at peace with his life and was a kind-hearted, good friend.

John’s parents, brother, Thomas and his sister, Peggy, preceded him in death. Survivors are Michelle (Earl) Weber, Reid (Laura) Wilcox, Greg Wilcox, Brent Wilcox, Krista Callison, 13 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. He was a member of Sierra Vista United Methodist Church and Mansfield Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s memory may be made to either the American Cancer Society or to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
