Jessie Mae Shelton was born on January 4, 1939 in Corpus Christi, Texas, the daughter of the late Ethel Williams Whitley and Jesse Walker Smith. She spent her early life between Texas and California before settling down in Los Angeles where she met and married her husband, Alfred Bradley Shelton Sr. on January 8, 1958. From their union, seven children were born. In 1969 Jessie moved from Los Angeles to the San Francisco Bay Area where she raised all of her children.

A deeply committed mother and Christian, Jessie loved attending church, reading her Bible, and mailing scriptures to her children and grandchildren. Jessie Mae worked for several organizations, including United Airlines, St. Francis Hotel, and the American Heart Association, from which she eventually retired. She later settled in Elk Grove, California.

Jessie Mae enjoyed cooking for her family and cherished spending time with her children, great-grandchildren and friends.

Jessie Mae’s life was a testament to resilience & unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, faith, and a deep love for her family.

Jessie Mae was preceded into eternal life by her parents, daughters Pamela Diane Shelton and Karen Lynne Shelton, grandson Giovanni Shelton, and her siblings, Beatrice Whitley Rogers and Edgar Whitley Jr.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Gaye Shelton, four sons, Alfred Bradley Shelton Jr. (Ollie), Scott Anthony Shelton (Shawna), Michael Lansing Shelton (Lisa M.), David Troy Shelton (Lisa C.), and devoted inherited son, Patrick Brown (Bobbi). Jessie Mae also leaves eleven grandchildren, Walter Grigsby, Melanie Bettis (Kerry), Seleste Love, William Bryant Jr. (Haley), Savannah Zarroug (Alnour), David Shelton Jr, Dominique Shelton, Ciera Shelton, Azja Shelton, Scott Shelton Jr, Adrian Shelton, and eight great grandchildren, Janea Grigsby, Amaia Hines, Amina Romero, Kashton Shelton, Kasseri Shelton, Giovanni Shelton-Geurts, Samson Bettis, William Bryant, and a host of family members and friends.
