Jeanne Saliers
Jeanne Elaine Saliers, 103 years young, born Jeanne Mills of Grand Rapids, MI and later Phoenix, AZ passed away peacefully the morning of July 26, 2025.
Born in Grand Rapids, MI on July 20, 1922, Jeanne grew up with a strong heart for service that she maintained throughout her entire life. She held a variety of jobs during the years including Nabisco, Wolverine World Wide, Display Pack, Mary’s Dairy and Blythefield Hills Baptist Church. She served with her husband Clair in several churches.
Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband, Clair L. Saliers, her brother Melvin, her sisters Margaret and Ruth, and two of her children, Ruth Ann and Martha. She is survived by her children Beth and Mark, and her sister Marilyn. Jeanne was a proud grandmother to 8 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Jeanne loved music and apt to burst out a line of a hymn at any time. She learned to play piano watching the pianists at her local church, Berean Baptist, rarely being able to afford actual piano lessons. She became an accomplished pianist herself and learned to sight-read music. She often talked about her first piano recital in 3rd grade where she hit a wrong note. Jeanne loved gardening, sewing, and at times dabbled in crochet and macramé. She was also instrumental as a teacher in her women’s non-denominational bible study.
A memorial service will be held with family and friends at 12pm-1pm Friday, August 1, at Hansen’s Mortuary in Scottsdale, AZ followed by a 1-2 pm gathering with song at her burial site. In keeping with the spirit of joy and high Phoenix temperatures, any color clothing is accepted. An ice cream social will follow at Jeanne’s Sun City home as she always loved ice cream after dinner.
Jeanne will be deeply missed, but those who knew her well always remember her constant refrains, “Today is the day the Lord Hath Made, let us Rejoice and be Glad”, or “Cheer Up Ye Saints of God, there’s Nothing to Worry About.”
