Jean Hickey

Jean Lois Hickey, beloved wife of the late Walter Emmett Hickey, passed away peacefully on October 06, 2025, at the age of 94. She was the dear sister of the late Ralph (Audrey) Neilsen and a devoted aunt to Walter (Elizabeth) and Gregory (Susan) Neilsen. She was also a cherished great-aunt to Erin, Hannah, Tyler, Sophia, and Benjamin Neilsen. Jean was predeceased by her loving parents, Harold Ejner and Lena Elizabeth (Kautzman) Neilsen.

Jean enjoyed a long and successful career with Ohio Bell, where she worked from 1949 until her retirement in 1983 as Personnel Manager. In her retirement, she dedicated her time and talents to serving others. Jean was an active and faithful member of her church communities, serving as an ordained elder at Faith Presbyterian Church and later as a valued member of Lakewood Presbyterian Church. She also provided leadership as President of her condominium board. Through her church’s ministry, Jean offered compassionate support to refugees from Bosnia and Myanmar, helping them secure employment, housing and worship space as they built new lives.

Jean also found the time to travel in retirement, visiting destinations such as the Caribbean, Ireland, Alaska, and Germany. She was also a passionate collector of Hummel figurines, which brought her great joy.

Jean will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, unwavering dedication, and the joy she brought to her family, friends, and community.  The family wishes to thank Stephanie Mikula for the outstanding care and companionship she provided in the final year of Jean’s life.

Memorial Service will be held on Saturday November 8 at 2pm, at Lakewood Presbyterian Church, 14502 Detroit Ave, Lakewood. Rev Dr James Butler, officiating Private interment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Lakewood Presbyterian Church

A private interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park in North Olmsted. Further arrangements will be announced.
