Janette Susan Melgaard – Born on February 10, 1954, in Phoenix, Arizona, Janette Susan Melgaard—affectionately known as “Jan” to her family and friends—was raised on a small farm nestled in the South Mountain area of Phoenix. The property included a kennel of racing greyhounds owned by her grandfather, adding a unique charm to her childhood.
Jan attended South Mountain High School, where she excelled as a standout athlete on the Rebel Varsity golf team. She also showcased her love for horses as a member of an equestrian quadrille team, riding her cherished horse, Angel.
After graduating, Jan began her professional journey in the family business, starting in the sales department. She later transitioned into real estate, launching a successful career before embracing a new challenge as Controller for S&L Printing, a role she held for many years with dedication and skill.
Jan married young and was the proud mother of three daughters: Holly, Carri, and Nikki. She found joy in the outdoors, spending time camping, boating, and making memories with her children. One of her favorite places was Mission Beach in San Diego, where she loved sipping coffee while watching the morning tide roll in.
A passionate volunteer, Jan gave her time to events ranging from rodeos to football games—including the Super Bowl—always surrounded by friends and community. Despite her busy life, she remained a steadfast advocate for mental health, championing causes close to her heart.
Jan was preceded in death by her mother, Barbara; her father, Edward; her brother, Eddie; and her grandson, Kelton. She is survived by her stepmother, Jeanine Johnson; sisters Ann (Jim) Zangger and Sharon Heiney; stepbrother Steve (Kim) Watt; sister-in-law Luray Johnson; daughters Holly (Reed) Johnson, Carri (Corey) Mault, and Nikki Osterburg; three grandsons, two granddaughters, and three great-grandchildren—as well as loving family and friends.
