Janet Manchin Thompson, aged 80, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Commander Robert G. Thompson, and her parents, John Sr. and Mary Manchin. Janet leaves behind a legacy of love, strength and a zest for life that will never be forgotten.
Janet is survived by her children, Mary Jo Thompson and Peter Thompson, and her treasured granddaughter, Isabella Thompson. She also leaves behind her beloved siblings and their spouses: Senator Joe and Gayle Manchin, Dr. John and Kathy Manchin, Paula and Manuel Llaneza, and Rock and Cindy Manchin, sister-in-law Carol Manchin, along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Janet was a force of nature throughout her life. First, as a dedicated partner with her husband, Bob, she supported him and was his strongest advocate as he progressed through the military ranks. However, as they traveled and lived in different parts of the country, she also began to cultivate her own interests and culinary talents, working with chefs, and perfecting her own inspirations. Upon Bob’s retirement, they returned to West Virginia where she operated a successful restaurant enterprise. Her recipes and ability to turn any gathering into an event will continue to be a source of comfort, tradition, and connection for generations to come.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 9th at Calvary Temple, 28 Calvary Lane, Fairmont, WV 26554, from 10am until the time of the funeral service at 12pm. Interment will be in the Farmington I.O.O.F. Cemetery. All who knew and loved Janet are welcome to attend and celebrate her remarkable life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Janet by sharing a meal with loved ones or donating a meal locally to those in need in her memory. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.hutsonfuneralhomes.com. The Hutson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Thompson/ Manchin family.
