James Clifton Mills, age 92, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Deer Park Health & Rehabilitation in Nebo.
Born on May 31, 1933, in Jackson County, James was the son of the late Lucious Alvin Mills and Bessie Hoxit Mills.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Louise Christine Frady Mills, two sons, Ronnie Lee Mills and Gentry Allen Mills; four brothers: Herbert Mills, Joe Mills, Eldon Ashe and Glenn Ashe; three sisters; Geraldine Hoyle, Bessie Ammons and Christine Keener.
James proudly served his country with honor, retiring as a Sergeant from the United States Army after 27 years of dedicated service, including during the Korean War. Following his military career, he worked with Contell Telephone company for 35 years until his retirement. A hardworking and dependable man, James was known as a devoted husband and father. He carried himself with a calm, steady nature and was admired for his good heart.
Outside of work, James had a special love for animals. Over the years, he raised a wide variety of livestock, including chickens, goats, pigeons, pigs, and many others. His gentle spirit and caring nature were evident in the way he treated both people and animals alike.
Left to cherish his memory are his three children, Jimmy Mills of Marion, David Mills of Marion, and Patricia Johnson of Marion; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service to celebrate James’ life will be held on Thursday, September 11, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at McDowell Memorial Park with Dwayne Ray officiating.
