James McGeever

James P. McGeever 62, of Streator passed away on July 29,2025 in Allure of Mendota, with his loving wife by his side. Cremation rites have been accorded. Wasmer Funeral Home is privileged to assist the family. Celebration of life will be August 9,2025 at First Lutheran Church 2519 Grove Street, Blue Island, IL. 60406. Visitation will be 9am to 11am. Service at 11am.

Jim was born May 21,1963 in Chicago to John “Jack” and Joan (Svoboda) McGeever. He graduated from Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park in 1981.Music was Jim’s mainstay – not only did he enjoy listening to music, but he was an extremely gifted keyboard player. He had the ability to listen to a song once and sit down and play it flawlessly. Jim served the public for over 40 years serving as a firefighter, EMT/Paramedic, 911 Operator, 911 Supervisor and Police Records Supervisor. He was a dedicated employee and manager never expecting his employees to do anything he himself wouldn’t do. Jim was a diehard Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bear fan (who begrudgingly shared football Sundays with his wife the devout packer fan). Jim was a cherished “cat daddy” to Clawed and Abbey. Jim wholeheartedly enjoyed dressing up as Santa during the Christmas season and entertaining the little ones at family parties. He will be forever missed by his wife, Linda of Streator, his mom Joan of Palos Park, 2 brothers: Patrick (Mary) McGeever of Hinsdale, Martin (Sharon) McGeever of Orland Park, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and his godchildren.
