James Dale (Jim) Johnson was born on December 15, 1948, in McNairy County TN near Selmer, son of Henry Allen and Theo Holland Johnson. He passed away on Friday, June 6, 2025 at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
He was educated in the schools of Alcorn County Mississippi. He later received his GED when his oldest daughter was two years old.
Jim was an example of someone that worked hard and persevered in spite of many obstacles in life. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He served a two year tour of duty in Viet Nam. He attained the rank of Corporal. After completing his military service, he met the love of his life Sherry Dunham of Kenosha, Wisconsin. They married in 1973. To this union two daughters were born. They were the apple of his eyes. Jim worked hard to provide for his family and was employed by General Motors in Kenosha. He and Sherry along with their two daughters, Jennifer and Jamie, resided in Kenosha until 1985 when they moved to Humboldt, TN. Upon moving to Humboldt, he and his wife Sherry established J and S Welding Service. This was a very successful and lucrative business venture. They worked tirelessly to make this business a success. They retired and sold the business in 2014. Jim was highly motivated and worked hard to overcome the obstacles life threw at him. He leaves a legacy of love and a strong work ethic for his daughter and grandchildren to follow.
Tragedy occurred on March 22, 1998, when his youngest daughter Jamie was killed in a car accident. This was a very difficult time for Jim and Sherry. They persevered and life continued on. Jennifer blessed them with three grandchildren, which brought great joy to their lives.
In May of 2015, Jim’s life changed when his beloved wife Sherry passed away. Jim was very lonely and life was never quite the same.
