James Jenkins
James (Jim) H. Jenkins of Cable, WI, died June 5th, 2025 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth, MN. Jim was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois on October 9th, 1946 to Rev. Joseph Jenklns and Lois (Stapley) Jenkins. His family moved to Cable in 1950 when his father took over as pastor of the Cable Congregational United Church of Christ (UCC).
Jim graduated from Cable High School in 1964 and entered the U.S. Army that fall where he served in Germany and Vietnam. He served with the 173rd AHC (Home of the Robin Hoods) at Lai Khe, Vietnam, and was honorably discharged in 1967. One of the Huey helicopters from that company was on display at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C for many years. Jim attended Northland College in Ashland, WI and obtained his B.S. in Natural Science from UW-Stevens Point in 1973. Jim loved his wife Marilyn, son Eric, and daughter Emily. He cherished his family, his friends, and the entire Cable community. Jim was a building contractor for many years in the area and was named by the Northland Area Builders Association as Builder of the Year in 1995. Jim gave generously of his time and talents to the community for many years, serving on the Fire Department, the Great Divide Ambulance as an EMT, Town Board Chairman and Side Board, and with the UCC in a variety of capacities. In retirement Jim stayed active; fishing in Florida, golfing in Cable area, trips to the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone National Parks and following the Band of Brothers from WWII in Europe. He continued to help family and friends and the Cable community.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Lois Jenkins; brother David Jenkins; sister Janet Jenkins and nephew Paul Christoper Jenkins.
Surviving Jim is his wife of 53 years Marilyn Jenkins of Cable, son Eric (Allyson) Jenkins of Woodbridge, VA, daughter Emily Jenkins of Spring Lake Park, MN; brothers Joseph L. Jenkins and Paul Jenkins of Cable. Also surviving him are grandsons Jack Jensen, Owen Jenkins and Gavin Jenkins, as well as many nieces and nephews. All of whom he dearly loved.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday, July 3rd at Noon at the Cable United Church of Christ, followed by fellowship at the Cable Recreation Park (12955 Cable Sunset Rd, Cable, WI 54821) from 1-3 pm. A private interment with Military Honors will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Cable, WI.
Memorials of Jim’s life may be given to the Cable United Church of Christ, Tunnel to Towers Foundation, CARE of Cable, or to a charity of your choice.
Cremation Services have been entrusted to Mountain Funeral Home of Ashland, WI.
