James Brooks

James Robert Brooks graced the world with his presence in the wee hours of October 30th, 1940. An only child, James “Jim” was born in and grew up in Roxboro, North Carolina, before moving to Wilmington, Delaware. While attending Mt. Pleasant High School and the University of Delaware, he took jobs in various professions, including working as a soda jerk, a technician at a donut factory, and as a movie usher as he found his way in the world. Eventually, he acquired a degree in electrical engineering from the aforementioned university, which led to numerous positions in prestigious companies, including Smith-Kline, Harris, and GE as a regional sales manager.

Living in Wilmington, Jim married Virginia Battin, and from that union, a pair of amazing children were born, Laurie Brooks and James Brooks Jr “Jamie”, in 1962 and 1963, respectively. While still in Wilmington, Jim later married Patricia Sundquist, and from that marriage, two sons were born, Robert Brooks in 1979 and Jonathan Brooks in 1981. He then moved to Seattle, Washington in 1986 and then to Littleton, Colorado, in 1988, where he resided for the rest of his life. While in Littleton, Jim married Susan Johnson, and soon enough, twin boys, Tylor Brooks and Austin Brooks, were born in 1999.

Sadly, Jim lost his only daughter, Laurie, when she tragically passed away in early 2025.

Jim was a great lover of music, classic cars, and simply talking to people about anything. His charismatic nature allowed him to walk into a room and immediately grab the attention of everyone inside, and he always had a story or a joke to tell to a captive audience. But what really made Jim happy was his family; he could be constantly heard telling other people about how proud he was of his family’s achievements and accomplishments.

James Robert Brooks passed away peacefully due to natural causes on the morning of September 1st, 2025, at the venerable age of 84. He is survived by his wife Susan, as well as his sons, Jamie, Robert, Jonathan, Tylor, and Austin, as well as his grandchildren, Justin, Tyler, and Layla. Those left behind will greatly miss the loving, caring, and charismatic nature of the family patriarch.
