Jackson Hayes

Jackson Douglas Hayes, Jr., age 70, of Damascus, VA, went to his Heavenly home on Thursday, April 10, 2025. He was born on March 18, 1955, to the late Jackson Hayes, Sr., and Louise Hayes Buckley. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Barbara Connors; and sister, Charlotte Cornell. Doug was an affectionate and dedicated father to his two children, whom he loved and was so proud of. He also served the Konnarock and Whitetop communities for nearly 20 years at Mount Rogers Fire & Rescue. You could often find Doug piddling outdoors or loafing at local country stores. Doug spent his younger years driving tow trucks and driving tractor trailers across the country. He retired from ExxonMobil, where he drove a fuel tanker. He won many safety awards and competitions during his driving career. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kyle Hayes and Cody Hayes (Tia Young); brothers, Timmy Goolsby and Gary Ben Hayes; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. A gathering for friends and family will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at Garrett Funeral Home from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will follow in the Riverview Chapel at 7:00 PM with Pastor Robert Blevins officiating. A committal service will be held on Thursday, April 17, 2025, at Laurel Valley Cemetery beginning at 3:00 PM with Kyle Hayes, Cody Hayes, and members of Mt. Rogers Fire Rescue serving as pallbearers. Everyone attending is asked to meet at Garrett Funeral Home at 1:30 PM to travel in procession to the cemetery.
