CHARLTON- Jack C. McDougle,85, of Charlton, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Jack was born in Athens,Texas, and raised on his grandfather’s farm, where he worked in a small engine repair shop.After his grandfather’s passing in 1955 Jack boarded a train to Massachusetts with his loyal dog,Bingo, to join his mother, Jenny T. Orlando, and his stepfather, A.J. Orlando. He completed high school in Massachusetts, graduating from North Brookfield High School in 1958.
After graduating, Jack began working full-time for his stepfather at the A.J. Orlando Construction Company. Over the years, he dedicated himself to the business, eventually taking over its operations. The company completed major road construction projects across New England and New York, including portions of the Massachusetts Turnpike and the New York Thruway.
Jack enjoyed competitive waterskiing and had a lifelong passion for woodworking, engine repair, restoration, and farming. A devoted animal lover, he cared for numerous dogs, cats, cows, llamas, goats, and horses on his farm in Charlton. In his later years, Jack continued to serve his community by driving a local school bus.
Jack is survived by his sister, Patricia McDougle of Plantation, FL; his former wife, Ann McDougle (Swanberg) of Paxton, MA; and their three sons: Jack Jr. of Arlington, VA, with his wife, Heather, and their daughter, Hadley; Andrew of Smithfield, ME, with his wife, Carol, their children, Kyle (with his wife, Kelsey, and their daughter, Gemma) and Kelsi; and Brad of Deerfield Beach, FL. He was predeceased by his beloved second wife, Frances McDougle (Danguitis).
Jack will be laid to rest in Dresden Cemetery in Texas. A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jack’s memory may be made to Second Chance Animal Services, 111 Young Road, P.O. Box 136, East Brookfield, MA 01515, or online at www.secondchanceanimals.org. Arrangements are under the care of Pillsbury Funeral Home 163 Main St Spencer.
