Irving Batista

Irving Batista, of Jersey City, passed away unexpectedly on September 11, 2023. He was 34 years of age.

Born in Manhattan, Irving lived in Union City from the age of 8 until moving to Jersey City. He was a graduate of Union Hill High School and studied psychology at Bergen Community College. Irving proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy from 2011-2016 and was deployed to Japan, a country he learned to love. In his youth, he spent summers in the Dominican Republic with both his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his aunts and uncles. A few years later, while in his teens, he worked summers at his father’s car wash.

Prior to joining the military, Irving had a passion for working out, especially with his BarStarzz family, founded by his cousin and best friend Eduard Checo. Irving was very observant, detail oriented and organized. He had a passion for taking things apart, just to put them back together and enjoyed keeping his home neat and clean. He also loved to cook.

Irving’s family was especially important to him and always made sure he expressed his love to them either personally or even a random text message saying “Hey, I was thinking about you and just want to say I love you.” He always enjoyed when the family was together and took delight in the fact that his 1-year old nephew Julian looked like him when he was a baby (both having blonde hair). He had a great sense of humor and loved to make the room laugh with his goofiness.

Irving is the beloved son of Valerio and Maria Batista. He is the dear brother of Garrick Batista and Valerie Flores. Loving uncle of Julian Flores.

Visitation will be at Saint Aedan’s: the Saint Peter’s University Church, 800 Bergen Ave., Jersey City on Monday, September 18th from 3-8 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated the following morning at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
