Human remains discovered by river, Carson City detectives investigate
- December 6, 2025

On Friday, Dec. 5, 2025, human remains were discovered by the Carson River, near the Trainwreck Rapids in Brunswick Canyon. Carson City Park Rangers responded to the area and secured the scene for sheriff’s detectives.
Carson City Search and Rescue and detectives worked on Saturday, Dec. 6 to preserve the scene and recover several pieces of human remains, clothing, and other artifacts. Artifacts located at the scene led investigators to believe the remains possibly belonged to Robert Lawson White, a kayaker who went missing in June 2023, while boating in the Carson River.
White went missing on the same date in 2023 with another kayaker, James Martin, whose dead body was recovered from the river later that summer.
His next of kin has been notified of the progress of the investigation and the need to scientifically confirm the identity of the human remains. The remains were collected by the Coroner and taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office for formal identification.
