Howard P. Pigeon, affectionately known as “Pidge” or “Homer,” passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at the age of 88 at the Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia, PA.
Born on March 16, 1936, in Manchester, NH, Howard was the son of Margaret Foley and Albert Pigeon.
He enlisted in the Army as a teenager and served honorably in the Korean War. As a man of service and dedication, Howard followed his military service as a police officer in Harrisburg, PA, before transitioning to a role as a guard for the state treasury. Even into his retirement, he continued to serve his community as a Senate clerk at the Pennsylvania State Capitol and was known around town for “walking the beat.” He enjoyed his community, and there wasn’t a single local restaurant, store or barbershop where he wasn’t known.
Howard is survived by his three sons, Howard Jr., Michael, and David; and five grandchildren, Kelly, Brandi, Michael Jr., Cory, and Mia. His legacy of kindness and determination lives on in his family and all those who were fortunate to know him.
A viewing will be held at Neumyer Funeral Home, Inc. 1334 N. Second St. Harrisburg on Friday, December 20, 2024, from 2:00 P.M. – 4:00 P.M.
A graveside committal with military honors will be held on Monday, December 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. Howard’s family invites all who knew him to join in honoring his memory.
Memorial contributions can be made the Alzheimer’s Association – www.alz.org as well as the VA – https://www.pa.gov/dmva/donate/
