It is with deep sorrow that the family of Henry Akintunde announces his passing on October 1st 2025 in the Bronx, NY. He was 71 years old.

Henry was born on November 30th 1953 in Ibadan, Nigeria to Moses Akintunde and Awujuola Adeboje. From an early age, he showed a strong passion for learning and commitment to education that guided his life’s work.

Henry earned his PhD. in Economics from The New School. His career as a Professor of Economics spanned many years, including teaching positions at Long Island University, the United Nations and P.S. 208 in New York City School System. He was admired for his dedication to his students, his depth of knowledge and his encouragement of others to purse excellence.

He was united in marriage to Grace Akintunde, his loyal and devoted wife. Together, they built a life and their home in New York until they both retired in the Bronx.

Henry is survived by his beloved wife and his children Kalesia, Kimberly, Tracy, Henry and Moses. He is also survived by a host of relatives, friends, colleagues, former students who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents Moses Akintunde and Awujuola Adeboje.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at John J. Fox & Sons Funeral Home on Saturday October 18th from 11am to 1pm. A funeral service will follow at 1pm. Repass will follow directly after the service.

Henry will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness and lasting impact on the lives of all who knew him.
