Helen ‘Jeanie’ Capichiano
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Helen “Jeanie” Capichiano on September 28,2025 at the age of 86.
Jeanie was born on November 15, 1938 in Jamaica Queens, NY, the daughter of Herbert and Mary (Mahoney) Freese. Her father was a pilot and tragically died in a plane crash before Jeanie was born leaving behind his pregnant wife and two year old daughter. Her mother eventually remarried and had five more children with Jeanie being the second oldest of seven children. She attended Catholic schools and after graduating attended cosmetology school.
In 1958 her stepfather moved the family to Stepney, CT where she met her husband, Joseph. They were married on June 25, 1960 and celebrated 65 years together. They lived in Danbury and then moved to New Fairfield in 1966 where they built their home, raised their family and resided for almost sixty years. While raising her family she worked for Portion Products in Danbury followed by a managerial position at Waldbaums Supermarket. She retired from Waldbaums to work for her son at Putnam Lake Pizza.
She is survived by her beloved husband Joseph and her treasured sons Joseph and Paul. Sadly she was predeceased by her youngest son Neal in 2019. She is also survived by her two “daughters” Laurie and Regina (actually daughter in laws but we would be scolded if we used the “in law” word). She also had many nieces and nephews whom she also adored. Jeanie was beyond thrilled and so proud to be a “Nanny” to seven grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Noelle, Joey, Ashton, Paige, Devon and Kayleigh. Tragically she was predeceased by her grandson Nicholas in 2024. She was blessed to be a great grandmother to Natalia, Luke, Theo and Ava. Family was most important to her and spending time with her family brought her the most happiness and joy. She would always let us know how much she loved each and every one of us and would always say and write in cards “Love you ’till the end of time”.
Jeanie loved her home and took pride in decorating, gardening and maintaining a beautiful home. She and Joe built a vacation home in Pennsylvania where they and the family enjoyed for many years, creating many treasured memories.
Jeanie and Joe loved shopping, spending time in Pennsylvania, searching for antiques and more than anything spending time with their family. Monday night dinners at their home were something we all enjoyed as it was an opportunity for us all to be together.
She had a great sense of humor (sometimes naughty), loved to dance and loved her music from the fifties (especially Elvis). She was silly, sassy and loved to have fun – a ball of fire. She also loved her high heels and her soda.
We would like to thank all the special people who cared for her in her later years both at home and most recently Havencare at Filosa. They went above and beyond, treated her like family and we are truly grateful and appreciative for the wonderful care she received.
She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her but she will live forever in our hearts. We will cherish all the wonderful memories and will always “love you ’till the end of time”. May she rest in eternal light and peace.
There will be no calling hours and services are private, honoring Jeanie’s wishes.
