Gonzalo Montoya

Gonzalo Montoya, age 80 passed away peacefully on July 29, 2025. Born on October 20, 1944, in Guasabra, Colombia.

Gonzalo left his family behind to come to the United States in 1977—not by choice, but out of necessity to find a better life for his wife and 5 children. It was a sacrifice rooted in love and responsibility, one that defined much of his life.

He worked tirelessly as a laborer and painter, eventually joining Westchester County as a maintenance worker at Saxon Woods Golf Course, where he remained until his retirement.

Gonzalo was a man of few words but a big heart—quiet, humble, and deeply loyal. He would do anything for those he cared about. Though his later years were marked by illness and solitude, he never stopped being loved, and his memory will live on in the hearts of many.

He is survived by his wife Socorro; his children Luz Dary (Christian), Gonzalo Jr. (Nora), Elkin, and Marystella (Brian); and his grandchildren David, Maizie, Heath, Eamon, Emile, and Isabela. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Rodrigo.
