Gloria Astbury

Blue Hill—Gloria Violet Astbury of Blue Hill passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family, Sunday, July 20, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on February 13, 1937, in Weymouth, Mass. Clyde & Gloria married and raised their five children in Blue Hill. She lived a life filled with love, warmth, and devotion to her family and friends. Our door was always open; Gloria always prepared extra food and offered to set another place-setting whenever someone stopped by.

Gloria’s career included over 40 years of employment at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital. She was an extremely hard worker. She would gather brush and make wreaths for extra money for Christmas. She was an inspiration to all!

Beyond her role as a devoted mother, Gloria had a passion for fashion! She enjoyed dressing up for church on Sundays; she always looked so beautiful! One of her happy places was our camp on Toddy Pond. Gloria loved having cook outs, pontoon rides, camp fires, hearing children’s voices, splashing water, music and reminiscing with family and friends. Her second happy place was spending time in Kennebunk/Kennebunkport, dining out, having coffee at the ocean, visiting the spa & hair salon, shopping, and sitting on the front porch watching the sunset, with her daughter and grandchildren.

Gloria will be remembered for her positive personality traits, such as kindness, patience, generosity, infectious laughter, and strength. She dedicated her life to her family, husband and church. She was a constant source of support, guidance, and unconditional love, and lives on in our memories and who we have each become.

Predeceased family members include her father, Harry Alberton Cook; mother, Nellie Cook; brothers, Earl & George Cook; husband, Clyde Astbury, son, Daniel Astbury; and granddaughter, Jessica Grindle; and great granddaughter, Jasmine Grindle.

Surviving family members include her children; Marie Pearson, Blue Hill; Bill & Sharon Grindle, Blue Hill; John & Donna Deleo, Ellsworth; John & Violet Hughes, Kennebunkport.

Grandchildren include Alicia Pearson, USA; Erica Deleo, Ellsworth; Sarah Hughes & Nate Irwin, Barrington, NH; Benjamin Hughes & Jordan Larrabee, Kennebunkport.

Great grandchildren include Cody Sweet, River Pearson, Fern Parent and Bailey Hughes; A sister-in-law, Ruth Cook, also survives Gloria. In recent years Gloria found comfort and much happiness with her devoted companion, Gordon Howard. His two daughters Rhonda & Debbie provided Gloria with outstanding care and compassion! Our family will be forever grateful!
