Gilbert Vandenhouten

GILBERT O. VANDENHOUTEN, 92 of Spalding, MI passed away on Monday July 21, 2025 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba. Gilbert was born on October 8, 1932 in Kewaunee, WI to George and Clara (Bruskey) Vandenhouten. He was a 1950 graduate of Stephenson High School. On June 25, 1952 Gilbert joined the United States Navy and proudly served until being honorably discharged on June 4, 1956. On May 11, 1957, Gilbert married Carol Burie at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Menominee. He worked for Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee for 36 years. Gilbert was a member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church in Spalding, and American Legion Post 340 of Hermansville. He enjoyed going to the Senior Center in Hermansville, playing cards, camping, trips to the casino and cutting firewood. Gilbert further enjoyed listening to Brewer games on the radio and watching the Green Bay Packers.

Survivors include his wife: Carol of Spalding, MI; son: Rick of Milwaukee, WI; daughter: Kelly (John) Tice of New Berlin, WI; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents: George and Clara; and 2 children: Randy and Kim.

Visitation for Gilbert will be held at Anderson Diehm Funeral Home in Stephenson on Saturday July 26, 2025 from 10:00 am until time of Military Honors at 11:30 am. Funeral Service to follow with Father Jins Joseph officiating. Burial will be in Stephenson Township Cemetery.
