Gene Joseph White, of Chatham, IL, passed away at the age of 75 on December 3, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children, sister, and mother. He was born on March 28, 1950 in Taylorville, IL to the late Arthur Gene and Angelina Marie (Sassatelli) White. He was the loving and devoted husband to Eileen (Wilson) White.
He graduated from Taylorville High School in 1968, continuing his education at Eastern Illinois University and graduating in 1972 with a degree in Business Management and Marketing. Gene was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and played varsity baseball in college.
After graduation, Gene worked as Senior Vice President of Sangamon Greeting Card Co., ServiceAdvantage, and most recently worked as Director of Corporate Sponsorships and Events for Knights Action Park for many years.
Gene loved his children, grandchildren, and friends. He got great joy spending time with his grandchildren and traveling to see them. Gene enjoyed travels to Napa Valley, Annapolis, MD, Italy and Ireland. He loved reading, gardening, watching football on both Saturday and Sunday, and caring for his pets. He coordinated an annual 4th of July family and friends event at Knights Action Park for many years.
He was an active member of St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham, IL, Central IL Z Car Club, and the NRA. He also loved attending St. Louis Cardinal baseball games and kept a scorecard from each game.
Gene is survived by his wife, Eileen White; mother, Angelina White; four children, Matthew (Christina) White of Utah, Michael (Joanna) White of Florida, Anne (Brian) Ackerson of Virginia, and Daniel (Anahi) Newberry of North Carolina; two brothers, Terry (Dixie) White and Scott (Sally) White and one sister, Kathleen (Mark) Satterlee. He was a loving Papa to twelve grandchildren, David, Audrey, George, Kate, Andrew, Charlie, Lauren, Adam, Mary, Henry, Adriel, and Luna. He was also the loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025 at 11:00 am. A visitation will be prior to the funeral mass from 9:30 am – 11:00 am, at St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham, IL. Following the funeral mass, burial will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Taylorville, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph the Worker in Chatham, IL.
