Gary Dean Rowin, age 77, passed away on June 23, 2025, at the William S. Middleton Veterans Hospital in Madison, WI. Gary was born in Stoughton, WI to Esther (Foss) and Archie Rowin on March 2, 1948.

Gary graduated from Edgerton High School in 1966. He enlisted in the US Navy and served in Viet Nam until 1970. He returned to Edgerton to begin his musical life as the drummer in the Stoned Hinge Band. The years spent travelling and playing with this group of friends was a great adventure. He loved to share stories of ‘The Hinge’ and their exploits.

In 1975 He married Lori Nicks and together they raised three children, Ghinnah, Gabriel and Linnea. While living in northern Wisconsin he obtained an associate’s degree in Electronics from Southwest Wisconsin Technical College. He practiced electronics as his profession and as his hobby throughout his life.

Later in life he moved to Madison and in 2006 married Barbara Harris. He enjoyed being part of an extended family, reconnecting with old friends and playing music again.

He was a man of great faith, unconditional love for his family and great pride in his service to his country.

Gary is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Ghinnah (Aaron) Austin of Spring, TX, son Gabriel (Sarah) Rowin of San Diego, CA, daughter Linnea (Mike) Huebner of Racine, WI, and stepson Erick (Soniya) Harris of Chicago, IL. He was a proud grandfather to Chalice Austin, Tyler and Jack Rowin, Madison Stephens, Kirra O’Donnell, and Rajan and Priya Harris. He is further survived by his sister Beth Heller of Delafield, WI and an extensive family of brothers and sisters -in- law, nieces and nephews and good friends. He was proceeded in death by his parents and eight half siblings from their blended family, and his brother Roger Rowin.

On August 9, 2025, there will be a graveside service at Fassett Cemetery in Edgerton at 11:30 am with a Celebration of Life following at 1:00 pm at Lounge 1848, 112 West Fulton Street, Edgerton, WI.

Gary’s family wishes to express their gratitude to all the staff who treated him with such care and respect at the Veterans Hospital with special thoughts for Mady Pahl, Emma Wanless and Kelsang Dikyi who guided Gary through The Final Salute.
