Gary Michael Engel, age 69, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025, at his home.
He was born Sunday, June 24, 1956, in Florence, Alabama, grew up in Tupelo, Mississippi, and lived and worked in Starkville, Mississippi, Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Carrollton, Georgia where he was employed by Southwire.
Gary graduated from Tupelo High School in 1974 and was a first-generation college student, graduating from the University of North Alabama in Florence in 1979 with a degree in biology. He worked as an engineer designing electrical cable. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved water skiing, hunting, and camping with his family, especially his grandchildren, as well as trot-lining for catfish on the Tennessee River near J.P. Coleman State Park. He loved to walk over a fresh-plowed field looking for Native American artifacts and had a wonderful arrowhead collection. He read avidly and liked watching movies and sports. His 8 grandchildren affectionately referred to him as BawBaw Biscuit and he found great joy in their company. He was a member at Waco Church of Christ.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Engel of Tupelo, Mississippi, and by his grandson Bo Lawson Baker.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Diane Holcombe Engel; two daughters, Dana [Kevin] Baker of Carrollton, Georgia, and Laura [Kyle] Fleck of Tifton, Georgia; and a son, Trey [Molly] Engel, of Carrollton, Georgia; his mother, Peggy Engel of Tupelo, Mississippi; 7 grandchildren, Ava Baker, Ali Baker, Finley Fleck, Holder Fleck, Hollis Fleck, Arden Engel, and Isla Engel; one brother, Terry Engel, along with many other family and friends who will sadly miss him.
