Friends of Sutro Tunnel awarded over $493K by Travel Nevada 3D Program

During a recent Nevada Commission on Tourism meeting, the Friends of Sutro Tunnel Charity was awarded a $493,323 grant for a 10-year destination plan to support cultural and heritage tourism in Dayton and link the town’s Comstock history with Virginia City.
The Travel Nevada 3-D Program (Destination, Development, Design) is dedicated to growing tourism in rural Nevada and helping partners build thriving, authentic destinations that are great places to visit, live, and work!
The project kicked off with the creation of a steering committee and conducted an asset inventory.
Once that was completed, the team of consultants and Travel Nevada staff conducted onsite visits to the Dayton Area to meet with the steering committee to take a first-hand look at the community and two community engagement sessions were held to share ideas.
As a result of these meetings, the FoSTC was able to write a two-year funded grant for the implementation of the 10-year destination plan.
Rob McFadden, who serves on the FoSTC Board of Directors and who was instrumental in the success of the 3D Program said, “We are grateful to Travel Nevada and its tremendous impact on rural tourism. I’d also like to thank our dedicated steering committee for their support and work on behalf of the Sutro Restoration Project.”
