Mr. Franklin Eugene Whiteside, age 85, of Helen, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Born in Tarrytown, New York, on March 3, 1940, to the late William Franklin Whiteside and Ruth Carringer Whiteside, Frank lived a life shaped by service, determination, and hard work. After serving four years in the United States Navy, he continued his education and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1967 with a bachelor’s degree. A lifelong supporter of the Tennessee Volunteers, he proudly cheered for the Big Orange throughout his life.
Frank was the longtime owner of Georgia Carolina Petroleum Company in Ellijay, Georgia, where he dedicated many years to building and leading the business. Outside of work, he was an avid golfer who loved the game and the friends it brought him.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Stone Whiteside (2017); and his brother, Gordon Charles Whiteside. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Carri and Douglas McClure of Ellijay; and grandsons Zackery Elliott and wife Racheal of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Nathaniel McClure of Ellijay.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00pm Sunday, October 5th, 2025 from the Logan Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Smedley officiating. Inurnment will be held Monday, October 6th in the Georgia National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (AMDF), dedicated to saving sight through research and education.
