Frances “Nena” “Mrs. CdeB” Cabeza de Baca, a lifelong native of San Diego, born on June 16, 1933, passed away on November 18, 2024, at the age of 91.

Frances, with her beloved husband, Tony, who passed away in 2013,

raised their six children with much love and care. Frances was a loving soul, who put everyone above herself, dedicating her life to God, husband, family and her work at the National School District where she retired from in 1998. What brought Frances joy in life was making sure everyone was well fed and happy. She loved having visitors and anyone who came to the house was lovingly welcomed with a seat at the kitchen table. Frances enjoyed gardening in her yard, cooking, reading books and the newspaper, always very knowledgeable about history and the current happenings around the world and in her own community. She enjoyed time with friends and family, going to plays at Lambs Theatre, lunching with her comadres and friends, and shopping at Christmas and holidays for family and friends. She was a founding parishioner of St. Michaels Catholic Church, where she attended church for 66 years, serving the church as a catechist and helping and attending prayer groups. She enjoyed dancing and music of all genre thanks to her husband and 6 children and their different choices of music listening.

Frances is survived by her 6 children and their families including 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, 1 sister and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Frances will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. Her selfless nature and unwavering love leave a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew her. She will be greatly missed, with her beautiful smile always in our minds and hearts and memories of her dancing with her loving husband Tony.
