Fern Maynard
- February 27, 2025

Fern Hatfield Maynard, 91, of Novato, California, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2025. Born on September 10, 1933, at her parents’ home in Belo, West Virginia, Fern was the youngest of 10 children. She was preceded in death by all of her siblings, and she joins her beloved husband, Jack Emerson Maynard, who passed away previously. Fern and Jack married on October 4, 1951, and their love was steadfast and eternal. She will lie beside him, awaiting the Lord’s return.
Fern is survived by her daughter, Thena Sledge and her husband Phil, and her son, Jack E. Maynard II. She was a proud grandmother to Al Carpenter, Harrison Maynard, Leonard Maynard, Erin Sledge-Ramirez, and Renee Fahs. Fern was also blessed with 6 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-granddaughter. Her love for her family was boundless, and she will be deeply missed by them all.
Fern and Jack owned the King Coal Drive-In in West Virginia for 12 years before moving to Novato, CA, in January of 1962. She became an active and devoted member of the Novato Church of Christ, serving tirelessly in whatever capacity was needed. Fern worked for over 25 years at Fairchild Semiconductor, but it was her faith, family, and unwavering dedication to living a Christ-centered life that truly defined her.
Known for her humility, love, and work ethic, Fern set a clear example of Christian womanhood for her children and everyone around her. She was a loving wife, devoted mother, and impeccable homemaker who cherished her family above all. Her life was a testament to God’s grace and love, and she leaves behind a legacy of faith, kindness, and compassion.
While Fern will be sorely missed, we celebrate her new life in Paradise, where she is now at rest, reunited with her loved ones, and in the presence of the Lord.
