Family Art Saturdays at the Community Art Building
Art Activity Topic: Abstract & Pollock
Abstract art uses visual language of shape, form, color and line to create a composition which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references in the world. Abstract art, non-figurative art, non-objective art, and non-representational art are all closely related terms.
Jackson Pollock is an American painter and a key figure in abstract expressionism. His style of painting was exemplified by a spontaneous and free-spirited attitude, known as his famous signature “drip paint” technique, where Pollock would pour paint onto a canvas that had been laid flat on the floor. Instead of using traditional paint brushes and easels, the artist would use various objects such as knives and sticks to paint. Pollock is closely tied with the concept of “action painting”, a style of painting that uses bold gestures and dynamic brushstrokes, where the body is more engaged than in traditional painting.
Children of all ages and their families are invited to explore a variety of hands-on visual art projects that engage and educate. Second and Fourth Saturday of each month 10am-noon. All ages welcome; children under 18 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
Registration through Carson City Arts & Culture • $10 or $8/each for groups of 3 or more that register together. Kids 5 and under free.

The Virginia & Truckee McKeen Motor Car is currently the only fully-restored and operable McKeen Motor Car in existence. Rides last approximately 30 minutes.
