Eugene Lenahan, Sr.

Eugene F. Lenahan, Sr. 93, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 21, 2023. Gene was a lifelong resident of Jersey City until 2022 when he moved to Monmouth County with his beloved wife Margie (Nee Boyle).

Gene was a graduate of St. Aedans Grammar School and St. Aloysius High School where he was captain of the baseball and basketball teams and was a catalyst on the basketball team that defeated St. Peters Prep for the first time in school history. It was such a prodigious occasion that the school was closed the next day to celebrate this historic victory.

Following in his hero father’s footsteps, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1950-1954.

In 1954, Gene married the love of his life, his Cardinal Classmate Margie Boyle, and thus began a love story for the ages. Together they raised six children and their humble home at 215 Harrison Ave. became a revolving door of hospitality for 67 years. No crowd was ever too big or too small to fit around the kitchen table while “Bebop’ regaled them with his never-ending stories of the “good old days”.

Nothing in the world brought him more joy than being surrounded by his loved ones. He was especially proud of attending school and sporting events of his grandchildren and great grandchildren and becoming a surrogate grandfather to all of their friends. He was simply everybody’s Bebop.

While his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were loved to the moon and back, it was his beloved Margie who was the Sun that his entire world revolved around. To say they were best friends and soul-mates would be an understatement. They cherished one another’s presence and he unequivicobly worshipped everything about his beautiful bride of 69 1/2 years.

Gene is now reunited in Heaven with his parents, Thomas and Matilda (nee Lynch), his brothers and sisters, Marge, Clare, Marie,Thomas, John, Elaine, Joan and Barbara, and his cherished sons, Thomas (Spud) and James.

He is survived by his soulmate and best friend Margaret (nee Boyle). His beloved children, Eugene, Jr., Gail and Lou Guarini, Laura and Ken Brophy and Anne and Steve Londregan. His adored grandchildren, Kristen, Ryan, Brian, Kristin, Shaun, Shannon, Kevin, Kimberly, Megan, Pete, Kenneth, Cathy, Erin and Mike and his precious Great Grandchildren, Kayla, Brayden, Declan, Kellan, Donovan and Baby B. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene will be remembered as a man of Faith, Integrity, Character and Honor.

Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at St. Aedans Church in Jersey City at 10:30am. McLaughlin’s Funeral Home will be handling all the arrangements. Cremation private.
