Eugene Kelly

Eugene Francis Kelly, of Larchmont, passed away Friday July 11th. He was 81. Born on August 21, 1943 the second of 5 children in the Highbridge section of the Bronx, to Eugene and Julia (Culloty). His days growing up as a mischievous kid in Highbridge and summers in Rockaway, formed memories and friendships that would last his entire lifetime. Gene proudly served his country in the Marine Corps, enlisting at the young age of 16. In 1966 he joined the NYPD, where he would serve in the 40th Precinct. His time at the 4-0 was filled with unwavering support for those in society who needed it most. Upon retirement from the NYPD, Gene and his brother Jimmy partnered in owning and operating the Rye Beverage Mart. Gene was married to the love of his life Sheila (McKeon) for 59 years. Their love was the stuff of fairy tales. Sheila was always by his side until the very end. They especially loved their trips to Europe with Jim and Ann, and Vinny and Jane. The summers spent with family at their house in Bay Head NJ created endless sunny days, laughs, lessons, and memories. They were longtime members of the Larchmont Shore Club, devoting many years of service to the board including a time as president. He is survived by his adoring wife Sheila, loving children Sheila Lonieski (Pat) and Gene (Theresa) and his cherished grandchildren Matthew, Cecelia, Maeve, Patrick, Reagan, Mairead, and Rowan. It was the role of a grandfather that gave him the greatest joy of his life. Constantly telling them, he was the “luckiest Poppy in the world.” He is also survived by his sister Mary Sheila and his brother James (Nancy). Eugene is predeceased by his sister Noreen (James) and brother Billy. He also was cherished by many nieces and nephews, as well as cousins, and friends from all walks of life.

To honor his life, family and friends will gather Tuesday from 4pm – 8pm at Coxe & Graziano Funeral Home, Mamaroneck. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10am Wednesday at St’s. John & Paul Church, Larchmont. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne. A celebration of his life will follow his burial at the Larchmont Shore Club.
