Eleanor Joan Kruthoffer entered into eternal rest on Monday, September 1, 2025, in her sleep while in hospice care at home. Joan was the youngest child of the late Helen Thistlewaite Allen and Charles Allen and grew up in a family of six. All of her siblings preceded her in death. Joan was born in Jefferson, Pennsylvania, November 22, 1937, and lived most of her entire adult life in Lexington, Kentucky.
She graduated from Wellsburg High School (Wellsburg, WV) in 1955 and not long afterward dedicated herself to becoming a homemaker where she eventually raised six children. Family and friends were always important to Joan and she was well known for her laughter and treasured family gatherings at her home. She absolutely loved her many dogs she had down through the years but especially her loyal dog, Annabelle, who stayed at her side continually up until the time of her homecoming.
Joan was a strong Christian who loved Jesus and enjoyed Sunday mornings as she watched multiple Christian TV shows often with her son, Mark. Joan is survived by three sons, Bob (Caroline) Scott of Shelbyville, Mark Kruthoffer and Jay Kruthoffer both of Lexington. Her grandchildren included Kristin Ramey, Katie (Stu) Gardner, Dodd Kinder, Mandy (Michael) Evans, Sawyer Scott, Larkin Kruthoffer, Emilie Kruthoffer, Luke Scott and Zach Scott; Great Grandchildren are Elias Ramey, Maddy Evans, Michael Evans and Noah Gardner. She is also survived by special friends, Bonnie Thornton and Marc Murphy, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Kruthoffer, daughters Debbie Kinder and Susan Scott and her son, David Scott.
There will be a private ceremony in her honor to be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lexington Humane Society or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Care Cremation and Funeral Service is honored to be entrusted with final care.
